Organisation Overview: Formerly known as Bukit Ho Swee Family Service Centre, South Central Community Family Service Centre (SCC) provides support to the low-income and vulnerable families in our community. While giving support to families who seek help in financial, social or relationship issues, we encourage community self-help and cooperation.
Brief Description: You should be prepared to spend a significant amount of time working directly with low-income community members. The work which requires you to be emotionally present, listen attentively and empathetically, and build relationships with people. There will be extensive work required with a wide range of community partners, from social service agencies, government agencies, and more. The nature of the work, thus, includes a significant amount of administrative, coordination, and organizing work.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Conduct outreach, identify and engage families who can benefit from KeyStart or Livelihood’s support
Build rapport and closely follow up with families in our programme through home visitations and/or sessions with families. This includes case work (with supervision provided) to support families in overcoming their barriers and difficulties in moving towards home ownership, or supporting members in their livelihood and employment pursuits
Assist the team in planning and implementing the KeyStart and Livelihood programmes by managing data, preparing administrative documentation, support with grant calculations, and coordinating meetings with internal and external stakeholders
Advocate for families to key stakeholders including government agencies, or to be supported under our internal KeyStart and Livelihood financial grants
Support with research, evaluation and advocacy work on housing inequality, employment and upskilling, and related issues in Singapore
Perform additional responsibilities (e.g. support with event management, updating of programme collaterals) that may be assigned throughout the internship
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
To be exposed to working directly with low-income families and understanding their housing challenges
To be able to build trusting relationships and communicate empathetically with families during home visits and follow-ups
To apply case work skills and administrative knowledge in supporting families’ journey toward stable housing
To participate in cross-sector collaboration with community and government partners
To learn how to manage programme documentation, coordinate meetings, and support with grant-related processes
To gain knowledge in housing inequality issues and contribute to research and advocacy efforts
Duration of Internship: 6 months
Daily Working Hours: Mon-Fri, 10.00am - 6.30pm
Will this internship require weekend work?: No weekend work required
Requirements (if any):
• Passionate about service, community building, and fostering relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds
• Highly detail-oriented and well-organized with strong operational plus administrative skills
• Strong written communication and comfortable with minute-taking, as well as report writing
• Comfortable with Microsoft Excel, having familiarity with data entry and analysis
• Adept at presenting to diverse stakeholders and engaging in community outreach
• No prior formal experience required, but any volunteering or experience in human services is a bonus
• Must be 18 years or older in 2026
