Brief Description: The intent is to provide the student intern with a meaningful hands-on experience in a Senior Care Centre (SCC) setting.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Daily Visual Health Checks
Support the team in observing and documenting clients’ vital signs at the start of each day.
Elder Engagement
Assist centre staff to plan and conduct engaging activities tailored to the interests and needs of the elders.
Daily Activity Logs and Progress Notes
Record daily activity participation and key observations for progress notes purposes.
Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
Observe and assist staff in providing support with ADLs, such as preparing walking aids or wheelchairs for safe transfers and ambulation. Assist in receiving clients upon arrival and during their departure from the centre, ensuring safety procedures are followed throughout.
Infection Control
Learn and practise key infection control measures, including proper hand hygiene, and wiping of high-touch areas.
Please note the intern will be assigned to one of St Luke’s ElderCare Centre and the working hours may varies with different centres.
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
Gain practical experience in daycare service delivery.
Develop understanding of daily centre operations and care routines.
Contribute to meaningful elder engagement.
Learn and apply safety and infection control practices.
Duration of Internship: 6 months
Daily Working Hours: Mon - Fri, 8.30am-6.00pm
Will this internship require weekend work?: No weekend work required
Requirements (if any):
Willingness and patience in serving elderly clients.
Team player with strong communication, interpersonal and organisational abilities.
