Organisation Overview: SalvageGarden is Singapore’s first assistive-technology makerspace, devoted to co-creating affordable, open-source device solutions with persons with disabilities, caregivers and makers.
Through hands-on weekly workshops, we engage in inclusive design and local manufacturing, building a community of makers committed to accessibility, empowerment and global sharing of assistive tech innovation.
Brief Description: Our Communications Intern will support SalvageGarden’s assistive technology and community inclusion initiatives. You will help manage social media, create content, and promote events to raise awareness and engagement.
Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Support documentation of programmes and workshops through photography, videography, and interviews with participants and volunteers.
2. Assist in managing social media channels by drafting captions, scheduling posts, monitoring engagement, and responding to messages or comments.
3. Plan and create communication materials, including social media posts, articles, and videos, to promote SalvageGarden’s programmes and events.
4. Design visuals, graphics, and simple layouts for digital and print materials such as posters, banners, and outreach decks and to develop communication strategies for outreach campaigns, community events, and volunteer recruitment.
5. Maintain communication records, assist with media outreach, and track analytics to evaluate communication performance and reach.
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
To be exposed to inclusive design and assistive technology development for persons with disabilities
To be able to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and contribute to community projects
To gain awareness of practical skills in prototyping and 3D printing for locally-manufactured solutions
To participate in workshops, events, and community engagement activities
To learn how to manage social media and effectively communicate updates to stakeholders
Duration of Internship: 6 months
Daily Working Hours: Sun-Thu, 9.00am - 6.00pm
Will this internship require weekend work?: Regular weekend work as part of normal schedule

• Work well with others and have effective written and verbal communication skills
• Proactive and willing to learn, with a positive attitude towards feedback and development
• Possess strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
