Organisation Overview: Nature Society Singapore is a non-profit, non-government organisation that inspires and enables people to take action towards a sustainable and biodiverse planet through engagement, education, advocacy and research. For more than 70 years, we remain steadfast in our goal to conserve biodiversity and habitats by reconnecting people to nature, restoring habitats and conserving remaining blue and green spaces in partnership with government agencies, corporates, other NGOs and the wider community.
Brief Description: Communications & Outreach Intern supporting NSS’s conservation efforts through storytelling, branding, and outreach. Create engaging content across articles and social media, assist with events, research, and reports, and support community engagement initiatives. Ideal for a proactive self-starter passionate about making a positive impact.
Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Create engaging content (articles, press releases, social media, educational materials) to showcase initiatives and conservation efforts
2. Support outreach planning and execution, cross-team coordination, and representing the organisation at events
3. Assist with event coverage, campaigns, and outreach materials to drive awareness and community engagement
4. Conduct research on environmental topics, audiences, and trends; contribute to reports and media kits
5. Support social media management, including scheduling, monitoring engagement, and tracking analytics
6. Provide administrative, editorial, and organisational support, including maintaining databases and coordinating communications
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
1. To be exposed to content development and outreach processes across digital, print and in-person platforms within a conservation-focused organisation
2. To be able to create engaging content and outreach materials (articles, social media, newsletters, press content) that communicate environmental initiatives and impact
3. To apply research and analytical skills to develop relevant content and engage stakeholders during events and on relevant topics
4. To participate in the planning, execution, and coverage of events and outreach activities, including on-ground support and media documentation
5. To learn how to manage social media platforms, coordinate outreach efforts, and monitor engagement to optimise communication strategies
6. To gain knowledge in community engagement, stakeholder communication, and administrative processes such as maintaining databases and supporting outreach programmes
Duration of Internship: 5 months
Daily Working Hours: Mon-Fri, 9.00am - 6.00pm
Will this internship require weekend work?: Occasional weekend work for special events/projects
Requirements (if any):
Mandatory
- Strong interest in local biodiversity and passion for environmental conservation
- Good communication, writing, and basic design skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Canva, and social media platforms
- Effective team player who is also independent, resourceful, and proactive
- Interest in community engagement and creating positive impact
- Should be available on occasional weekends with off-in-lieu provided
Preferred
- Background in Communications, Environmental/Life Sciences, or related fields
- Familiarity with common bird and butterfly species in Singapore
- Experience in design, journalism, publicity, event management, or outreach
