Organisation Overview: Total Wellness Initiative Singapore (TWIS) is a social enterprise with a ground-up arm that aims to promote and encourage people to take the first step toward being more intentional in caring about their well-being. We believe that education is an equaliser–one that can reduce stigma and empower individuals to prioritise their well-being. By improving mental health education, we equip people with the knowledge and skills to take proactive steps toward a healthier, balanced, and happier life.
Brief Description: Are you passionate about supporting the well-being of people around you? Come join Total Wellness Initiative Singapore as a Wellness Programme Intern and contribute to supporting youths of ages 13 to 25 to develop core mental health knowledge and skills! Interns will gain insight into working in the social sector and gain valuable experience in at least one of the following roles: Programme Management, Research and Development, Design and Communications, Volunteer Management, and more!
Roles and Responsibilities:
Receive training for the REST for WEllness programme in order to support the main trainer to facilitate small group discussions and activities during the programme
Support the founder and full-time staff to recruit, manage, and engage volunteers who will play a supporting role during key programmes and initiatives and other operational roles for TWIS
Communicate with partners and volunteers to plan and coordinate the details and logistics of events and programmes
Craft social media posts, write articles, and/or design graphics to share key mental health knowledge and/or highlights from TWIS activities
Gain on-the-ground experience engaging with youths and community members of all ages on topics related to mental health, overall well-being, and caring for themselves and others
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
Here at TWIS, we value our interns and believe in nurturing them to learn and grow. If you are selected, here are some learning experiences you can look forward to:
To gain a deeper understanding into mental health and specific mental illnesses, as well as avenues for seeking help, methods for coping with stress and peer support skills you can use to support friends who are going through a difficult time
To be able to take ownership of projects and see them through, end-to-end, in a company environment
To be exposed to a variety of programmes, activities, and commonly seen in the social sector, as well as how they are planned and executed
To learn and practice facilitation and communication skills with a wide range of people, including: how to ask generative questions, how to manage the energy of a small group and involve quieter people in the group’s discussion, and how to explain ideas in accessible ways
To apply and build on current skills to contribute to creating positive change in helping more youths access practical knowledge to improve their mental well-being
We love working with our interns to help them grow and develop in the areas they want to focus in!
