Organisation Overview: Woodlands Social Centre (WSC) is a social service agency located in Woodlands and seeks to provide person-centred services for disadvantaged families with young children (e.g. low-income, families with parental incarceration etc), empowering individual members, strengthening family bonds, and building a collaborative network of support within the community itself.
Brief Description: The Programme Intern will support Programme Head in the delivery and preparation for the family and children programme. The intern will be exposed to curating curriculum and content that are evidence-informed, designing and curating activities to cater to the needs of these children and families with opportunities to work directly with these families and children. It is ideal for interns who are passionate about building lasting positive impact for families and children.
Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Support Programme Head in designing and curating curriculum and content that are evidence-informed and based on social work theories that support children-at-risk holistically in their education, social, mental and emotional wellbeing and self-leadership as well as parental involvement in strengthening the family unit
2. Support Programme Head in designing and curating events and holiday initiatives to support children in their mental and emotional wellbeing through building of character, values and essential life skills for transitional stresses
3. Stay updated on emerging challenges and trends as well as community needs to ensure programme remain relevant and impacful for the children and families-at-risk
4. Facilitate small group discussions during sessions
5. Support staff in running of programme-related events or initiatives (e.g. ensuring safety and wellbeing of children, attending to children with child-centric approaches)
6. Prepare materials and logistics needed for running of session
7. Communicate and liaise with parents and volunteers
8. Support staff in preparation of reports, documentation and collaterals materials for internal and external stakeholders
9. Perform any other duties as assigned
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
1. To be exposed to working directly with families and children-in-need
2. To be provided with opportunities to lead and facilitate sessions with guidance
3. To gain exposure and knowledge in understanding challenges and struggles families and children-in-need face
4. To gain exposure to basic child centric approaches when managing and interacting with children
5. To apply social work informed practices during sessions with guidance and training
6. To be given opportunities to curate creative and engaging curriculum and activities for children
Duration of Internship: 6 months
Daily Working Hours: 8.30am - 5.30pm (Mon, Wed, Fri), 12.00pm - 9.00pm (Tue, Thu), occasionally on Saturday mornings if assigned duty for night children programme (OIL given)
Will this internship require weekend work?: Occasional weekend work for special events/projects
