Organisation Overview: New Life Stories is a social service agency that supports children and families affected by parental incarceration, with the mission of breaking the intergenerational cycle of incarceration through strong relationships, child resilience, and community support.
NLS serves children aged 0–17 and their caregivers, especially mothers who are or have been incarcerated. Its programmes focus on creating safe, stable, and nurturing environments that support children’s development and well-being.
Brief Description: The Programme Intern supports the planning and delivery of programmes at New Life Stories under the Befriender Engagement and Experience team, contributing to meaningful experiences for children, caregivers, and volunteers.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Plan and coordinate Learning Journeys and special projects
Assist with onboarding, training, and befriending sessions for volunteers
Coordinate ad-hoc volunteers for childminding during Caregiver Support Group and Adult Befriender sessions
Prepare programme collaterals (e.g., materials, resources, communications)
Provide administrative and documentation support for programmes
Support overall programme operations and logistics as needed
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
Community-based interventions for children and families affected by incarceration
To be able to coordinate and support volunteer-led activities, including Learning Journeys and home visits
To apply communication and stakeholder engagement skills when working with volunteers, caregivers, and partners
To participate in facilitation of onboarding, training sessions, and caregiver support activities
To learn how to manage programme logistics, administration, and documentation effectively
To gain knowledge in volunteer management, including recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and retention of Befrienders
Duration of Internship: 6 months
Daily Working Hours: Mon-Fri, 10.00am - 6.00pm
Will this internship require weekend work?: Regular weekend as part of normal schedule (off-in-lieu awarded)
