Organisation Overview: Yishun Family Service @ Children’s Society helps children, youth and families in Yishun through casework and counselling, social mobility & strengthening families programmes as well as community work. We envision journeying with the Yishun community so that every child can grow up in a family that is safe from harm, resilient in the face of adversity, able to pursue upward social mobility and sustained physical and mental well-being.
Brief Description: The Intern will support the programme team in the delivery and day to day operations of a thrice weekly children’s programme. The programme provides academic support, community building activities, and life skills development for children from multi stressed households. The Intern will gain hands on experience supporting children, families, and programme operations within a community based social service setting.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The intern will provide support to programme staff in the following areas:
Assist with child centric engagement by supporting age appropriate activities and creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for children.
Support classroom management, including assisting facilitators with activity flow, behaviour guidance, and session logistics.
Contribute to volunteer engagement and management, including supporting volunteers during sessions and assisting with coordination and communication as needed.
The intern will also participate in and support the following activities:
Attend and contribute to post session debriefs, reflecting on session outcomes and identifying areas for improvement.
Participate in monthly team meetings, supporting planning, sharing observations, and contributing to programme discussions.
Assist with the end of term evaluation review and implementation, including data collection, documentation, and follow up actions where appropriate.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor, based on programme and operational needs.
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
Develop foundational knowledge of child centric practice, including principles of child development, safeguarding, and strengths based engagement with children and families.
Build an introductory understanding of systemic practice, social mobility, and community development, and how these concepts inform programme design and service delivery for children and communities.
Gain exposure to organisational change management, including how programmes adapt to evolving needs, policies, and organisational priorities.
Learn to work collaboratively within a multi disciplinary team and alongside volunteers, contributing effectively while developing communication, coordination, and professional teamwork skills.
Duration of Internship: 6 months
Daily Working Hours: Mon - Fri, 9am to 6pm
Will this internship require weekend work?: Flexible - weekend work may be required depending on operational needs
