Organisation Overview: Engineering Good Ltd is a Singapore-based non-profit organisation that supports inclusivity for vulnerable communities, such as persons with disabilities and low-income families, through technology and sustainable engineering solutions.
Brief Description: To support Engineering Good’s Impact team to deliver our programmes and services to our end-users. This includes refurbishing laptops, coordinating their distribution, assisting to develop and build Assistive Technology (AT) projects, and supporting the training of our training volunteers.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Ensure incoming laptops are sanitised, reformatted, refurbished, upgraded (if necessary) and QC’ed in a timely manner
Assist in the management of the laptop provisioning chain, both in-house and outstation
Facilitating Community Partners in their request, allocation and collection of devices
Assist in managing Assitive Technology (AT) projects, including taking meeting minutes, writing reports and organising meetings
Assist in developing, building and repair of AT projects
Maintain the cleanliness and organisation in the makerspace and its inventory
Work with the team to improve processes and procedures
Assist in engaging and training stakeholders (i.e. volunteers, corporate/community partners, etc.) who support the organisation’s work through workshops and projects
Any other ad-hoc duties
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
Develop awareness of community issues
Cultivate empathy for the lives of the vulnerable and disadvantaged (such as Persons with Disabilities and low-income families) in our community
Increase knowledge of computer hardware and software
Hands-on practice at fixing issues, both hardware and software
Increase knowledge of Assistive Technology and designing for accessibility
Project management skills of technology-based projects
Hacking and tinkering skills, connect and learn with our maker community
Stakeholder management skills in building partnerships with other organisations and volunteers
Duration of Internship: 6 months
Daily Working Hours: Mon-Fri, 9.30am - 6.30pm
Will this internship require weekend work?: Occasional weekend work for special events/projects
