Organisation Overview: Singapore Red Cross is a homegrown humanitarian organisation dedicated to relieving human suffering, protecting lives and dignity, and responding to emergencies since 1949. We serve the vulnerable and build resilience in the community.
Beyond our shores, we mobilise and translate contributions from the donor community towards relief and recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts, with the aim of helping communities affected by disasters.
Brief Description: IT Intern supporting day-to-day IT operations, including hardware setup and refresh, user onboarding/offboarding, and troubleshooting technical issues. The role involves assisting with networking, asset management, and event tech setup, while progressively handling helpdesk tasks independently. Interns gain hands-on experience in IT service management, system administration, and using AI tools to improve troubleshooting and operational efficiency.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Hardware "Refresh" & Deployment: Learn the step-by-step process of re-imaging and re-formatting laptops. Once comfortable, they will assist in preparing hardware for staff and refurbishing old units for sustainability
User Lifecycle Management (Shadowing): Under the guidance of IT staff, interns will learn the administrative side of Google Workspace, assisting in the onboarding and offboarding of users and managing internal application access
Live Troubleshooting: Initially shadow senior staff on "live" calls to learn diagnostic techniques, eventually progressing to handling basic tickets and remote assistance independently
Networking Support: Provide assistance to end-users networking, WiFi, printers, and IOT devices
Asset & Governance: Support the IT Asset Management project, including inventory tracking and ensuring the secure disposal of E-waste
Event & Infrastructure Support: Assist in setting up work desks (monitors/docking) and providing AV support for Zoom/Teams meetings and in-house events
AI Integration: Explore and use AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini) to create scripts and find innovative solutions for complex troubleshooting scenarios
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
Systemic Learning (Phase 1: Shadowing): Observe and document the Red Cross’ IT operations, from security protocols to user communication
Supervised Execution (Phase 2: Guided Practice): Perform core tasks, like user onboarding in Google Workspace or hardware imaging under the direct supervision of an IT mentor
Operational Independence (Phase 3: Autonomy): Upon reaching a level of comfort and competence, the intern will be empowered to handle routine helpdesk tickets independently and assist on assets tracking
Professional Skillset: Gain a realistic understanding of IT Service Management (ITSM), data integrity, and the practical application of AI in troubleshooting and problem solving
