Organisation Overview: Yishun Family Service @ Children’s Society helps children, youth and families in Yishun through casework and counselling, social mobility & strengthening families programmes as well as community work. We envision journeying with the Yishun community so that every child can grow up in a family that is safe from harm, resilient in the face of adversity, able to pursue upward social mobility and sustained physical and mental well-being.
Brief Description: The intern will support Hub@234, a community-based preventive model offering early support for children and families. They will engage residents, support co-creation of programmes and spaces, and facilitate outreach and activities. The role includes documenting insights, supporting centre setup, and building relationships to encourage early help-seeking and stronger community connections.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Support community outreach efforts (e.g. playground engagement, school outreach, block activities) to connect with children and families
Assist in facilitating participatory workshops and engagement sessions with children, parents, and residents
Design and adapt child-friendly engagement tools and communication materials
Support the co-creation process by preparing materials and logistics for workshops and activities
Document insights, feedback, and observations from community engagements and co-design sessions
Assist in the implementation and adaptation of programmes based on community needs and feedback
Contribute to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment within Hub@234
Support other duties as required for the setup and operations of the centre
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
Understand and apply preventive and community-based approaches in working with children and families
Gain hands-on experience in children’s participation and co-design processes in a community setting
Develop skills in community engagement, facilitation support, and relationship-building with diverse groups
Build competency in capturing and analysing community insights to inform programme development
Learn how social service programmes are designed, adapted, and implemented based on community needs
Duration of Internship: 6 months
Daily Working Hours: Mon - Fri, 9am to 6pm
Will this internship require weekend work?: Flexible - weekend work may be required depending on operational needs
