Organisation Overview: Nature Society Singapore is a non-profit, non-government organisation that inspires and enables people to take action towards a sustainable and biodiverse planet through engagement, education, advocacy and research. For more than 70 years, we remain steadfast in our goal to conserve biodiversity and habitats by reconnecting people to nature, restoring habitats and conserving remaining blue and green spaces in partnership with government agencies, corporates, other NGOs and the wider community.
Brief Description: The Communications Intern is expected to support in the branding, storytelling and outreach for NSS's conservation initiatives. The intern will have the opportunity to craft compelling stories across articles, social media, and educational materials, cover impactful events, and contribute to research and reports for various communication assets. They will also gain hands-on experience in community engagement while supporting creative and editorial work that inspires action for nature.
Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Content Creation
- Write articles, blog posts, and press releases that highlight the organisation’s initiatives, impact stories, and conservation efforts
- Draft compelling content for social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) to raise awareness about ongoing campaigns, events, and environmental issues
- Assist in creating educational materials such as newsletters, brochures, and reports
2. Research and Reporting
- Conduct research on relevant environmental topics to support content development and stay informed about the latest conservation trends
- Support the development of media kits, impact reports, and case studies
- Coverage of events by Nature Society Singapore
3. Social Media Support
- Assist in managing and scheduling social media posts
- Monitor engagement, track analytics, and suggest improvements to social media strategies
4. Community Engagement
- Help craft messages that inspire and engage donors, volunteers, and community members
- Assist in developing campaigns aimed at raising awareness and fostering community involvement in conservation efforts
- Preparation and execution of Nature Society Singapore events, including on-ground support, coordination, and community engagement activities
5. Administrative Support:
- Provide general writing and editing support to the communications team as needed
- Help with organising files, content calendars, media outreach, and donor communications
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
1. To be exposed to content development processes across digital and print platforms within a nature conservation-focused organisation
2. To be able to write and produce engaging articles, social media content, newsletters, and press materials that communicate environmental initiatives and impact
3. To apply research and analytical skills to develop accurate, relevant, and compelling content on environmental topics and conservation trends
4. To participate in the planning, execution, coverage and documentation of organisational events, including drafting reports and creating media content
5. To learn how to manage and schedule social media platforms while monitoring engagement metrics and optimising content strategies
6. To gain knowledge in community-focused messaging that engages donors, volunteers, and the public in conservation efforts
Duration of Internship: 5 months
Daily Working Hours: Mon-Fri, 9.00am - 6.00pm
Will this internship require weekend work?: Occasional weekend work for special events/projects
Requirements (if any):
Mandatory
1. Interest in local biodiversity as well as passion for environmental issues and nature conservation
2. Effective team player as well as independent and resourceful self-starter
3. Good communication, design and writing skills
Preferred
1. Background in Communications, Environmental Science/ Studies, Life Science or related disciplines
2. Able to identify common species of birds and butterflies in Singapore
3. Design, journalism and/or publicity experience
5. Event management and outreach experience
