Organisation Overview: Established in 1976, SHINE Children and Youth Services is a registered charity with the National Council of Social Service. We support children and youth from disadvantaged backgrounds through research-based Social Work and Educational Psychology programmes. Additionally, through the development, promotion, and research endeavours, we aim to equip professionals working with children and youth to become competent and confident practitioners who are committed to research-informed practices.
Brief Description: The Research Assistant Intern will work closely with the Research Team and gain hands-on experience in research design, literature reviews, data collection, and analysis for studies related to children and youth at risk, such as youth mental health and social mobility. This role also provides opportunities to contribute to practice recommendations, journal publications, and community impact efforts.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Literature Review & Research Design – Conduct literature reviews and synthesize research findings to inform research questions and study frameworks
Data Collection & Analysis – Assist in designing and piloting data collection tools (e.g., surveys, interviews), recruiting participants, and conducting interviews
IRB Applications & Compliance – Support the drafting and submission of Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications for research studies
Report Writing & Presentation – Analyze research data, assist in developing reports and presentations for stakeholders, and present findings at internal and external seminars or conferences
Manuscript Development – Contribute to the development of journal publications, including reanalyzing data, drafting manuscripts, conducting literature reviews, and working with co-authors
Communications & Fundraising Support – Assist in crafting research-related communications and supporting fundraising initiatives where relevant
Administrative & Coordination Support – Take minutes for meetings, prepare PowerPoint presentations, and support other administrative research tasks as needed
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
Gain practical experience in research methodology and journal publication processes
Apply project management, research skills, and academic writing to studies focused on children and youth at risk
Develop a deeper understanding of values, insights, and competencies essential for working in the social services sector
Strengthen skills such as critical thinking, innovation, and resilience in a research-driven environment.
Duration of Internship: 6 months
Daily Working Hours: 9.00am - 6.00pm
Work Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
Minimum Qualification: No minimum education (i.e. A-level Graduates, Current Polytechnic students are welcome)
