Organisation Overview: SACS is one of the leading and largest Social Service Agencies in Singapore providing a seamless continuum of psychiatric rehabilitation services serving more than persons with mental health conditions (PMHC) annually.
Brief Description: The intern will work alongside Day Centre staff to support the operations of a psychiatric rehabilitation facility. The intern will be actively involved in the development, implementation, and review of psychosocial and recovery-focused programmes that aim to empower persons with mental health conditions.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Programme Planning and Facilitation: Plan, implement, and review therapeutic and rehabilitative programmes across various domains including Physical Wellness, Mental Wellness, Social Skills, General Knowledge, Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), Technology, and Art Therapy.
Event and Outing Coordination: Assist in the planning and execution of outings, festive celebrations, and key centre-wide events to promote social integration and community engagement.
Centre Operations and Administration: Support the day-to-day operations of the centre, manage administrative tasks, and ensure the general welfare of clients is attended to.
Client Engagement and Co-Production: Collaborate closely with clients in co-creating and co-producing programmes and projects to enhance ownership and recovery outcomes.
Vocational Guidance: Provide support and guidance to clients in developing skills relevant to employability and workplace readiness. 6. Psycho-Social Support: Offer basic individual counselling support when necessary, under the supervision of a qualified staff, and assist in managing clients' emotional well-being.
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
Develop an Understanding of Psychiatric Conditions and Recovery Approaches: Gain deeper insight into various psychiatric disorders, their treatment modalities, and the principles of psychiatric rehabilitation within a community-based day centre setting.
Understand the Roles of Community Mental Health Professionals: Learn about the multidisciplinary approach to mental health care, including the roles and collaborative contributions of nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists in supporting the recovery and well-being of individuals with mental health conditions.
Explore the Role of Social Service Agencies in Community Care: Understand the function and impact of Social Service Agencies (SSAs) in Singapore’s social service landscape, including how they support vulnerable populations and contribute to building an inclusive and resilient society.
Duration of Internship: 6 months
Daily Working Hours: 8.30am - 5.30pm
Work Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
Minimum Qualification: No minimum education (i.e. A-level Graduates, Current Polytechnic students are welcome)
