Organisation Overview: Nature Society Singapore is dedicated to the appreciation, conservation, study and enjoyment of the natural heritage in Singapore. Its vision is to be Singapore’s leading advocate of biodiversity and habitats. With its evidence-based approach and partnerships with agencies, peers and corporates, we lead habitat and biodiversity conservation in Singapore. Through engagement, education, advocacy and research, we inspire and enable people to take action towards a sustainable and biodiverse planet.
Brief Description: NSS is dedicated to the appreciation, conservation, study and enjoyment of the natural heritage in Singapore. We seek interns who are interested in climate change and biodiversity protection. Interns will be involved in writing articles to inform NSS members and members of the public on updates of world news on climate change, regional events/programmes that are tackling these issues, and also what NSS has been/will be doing to play our role to work on biodiversity conservation in Singapore.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Content Creation:
Write articles, blog posts, and press releases that highlight the organization’s initiatives, impact stories, and conservation efforts.
Draft compelling content for social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) to raise awareness about ongoing campaigns, events, and environmental issues. Assist in creating educational materials such as newsletters, brochures, and reports.
Research and Reporting:
Conduct research on relevant environmental topics to support content development and stay informed about the latest conservation trends.
Support the development of media kits, impact reports, and case studies.
Coverage of events by Nature Society Singapore
Social Media Support:
Assist in managing and scheduling social media posts.
Monitor engagement, track analytics, and suggest improvements to social media strategies.
Community Engagement: Help craft messages that inspire and engage donors, volunteers, and community members.
Assist in developing campaigns aimed at raising awareness and fostering community involvement in conservation efforts.
Administrative Support:
Provide general writing and editing support to the communications team as needed.
Help with organizing files, content calendars, media outreach, and donor communications.
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
To be exposed to working in an NGO
To gain knowledge in urban conservation and impacts made
To learn how to manage programmes, stakeholders and participants
To be able to be an independent worker and a team player
Duration of Internship: 6 months
Daily Working Hours: 9.00am - 6.00pm
Work Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
Minimum Qualification: Polytechnic diploma or professional qualifications
Requirements (if any):
Mandatory:
Interest in local biodiversity as well as passion for environmental issues and nature conservation
Effective team player as well as independent and resourceful self-starter
Excellent communication, design and writing skills
Preferred:
Background in Communications, Environmental Science/ Studies, Life Science or related disciplines
Able to identify common species of birds and butterflies in Singapore
Design, journalism and/or publicity experience
Event management and outreach experience
