Organisation Overview: It All Starts Hear (IASH.SG) is a social enterprise that believes in a community-based preventative approach to mental wellness in Singapore. We provide 3 main services – a free listening service, community mental health events and highly affordable counselling and therapy services. With our clinic space in Bishan, you'll be part of a fun team that hopes to make mental health support more accessible in Singapore!
Brief Description: Join us in making mental health approachable and accessible! As our Mental Health Services Intern, you will get a taste of running a full-fledged counselling centre and leading programs for our mental health community. As the first point of contact all new and potential clients looking to start their counselling journey, you will learn to handle sensitive client information and to communicate with empathy and care. You will be supporting our counsellors and volunteers, and even clients too.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Client servicing with empathy: attend to enquiries from the public on our services (this may include individuals in emotional distress), support new client’s as they embark on a counselling journey at IASH.SG. We will train you to be a peer supporter if you'd like to practice basic counselling skills with clients.
Counselling services management: onboard and orientate new counsellors, manage facilities of the counselling centre, and attend to adhoc administrative matters
Volunteer management: onboard new volunteers to our signature Hear Bud program, be involved in their training and provide scheduling support, help us to plan and run ongoing and even brainstorm new events and workshops for the wider community that we run every week
Website management: help maintain our mental health services page on the website, including Counsellor, Hear Bud profiles and our community events
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
To apply basic counselling skills (e.g. active listening) in handling enquiries from clients (Interns may have the opportunity to facilitate mental health group activities)
To gain experience in communicating with and supporting individuals with various mental health conditions/ levels of distress
To manage the operational aspects of a professional mental health services organisation, and learn skills in admin support and stakeholder management
To gain deeper understanding of concepts in psychology, wellbeing, mental health and counselling
Duration of Internship: 6 months
Daily Working Hours: 11.00am - 6.00pm
Work Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
Minimum Qualification: Polytechnic diploma (Current Polytechnic students are welcome as well)
