Organisation Overview: Chen Su Lan Methodist Children's Home provides temporary shelter, care, and protection to boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 21 years old who come from needy and disadvantaged families in Singapore. Our Home is one of the biggest children's homes in Singapore. There are usually 70 - 90 boys and girls living in the Children's Home and every year, 20 - 30 children are admitted or discharged back into their families or community.
Brief Description: An intern who is keen on teaching to join our team of multidisciplinary professionals who embraces the best interest of child and youth. The primary role of the intern is to provide tiered intervention to children/youths in consultation with the multidisciplinary team to promote the child/youth’s academic and personal excellence. The intern is also exposed to working closely with key stakeholders to plan, organize and implement educational programmes and activities for children and youths
Roles and Responsibilities:
Manage children and youths’ behaviour for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
Provide academic support for learners according to their abilities and in alignment with mainstream or special school curriculum objectives.
Support centre’s planned learning journeys and educational programmes.
Facilitate educational programmes that need support
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
To gain knowledge in pedagogy through guided teaching experience.
To participate in design instruction to promote learners' learning.
To learn how to create and implement effective lesson plans to meet the individual needs of diverse learners.
To participate in creating and using instructional materials and techniques.
To be able to utilize adaptive learning technology for instruction and communication.
To learn how to create a positive and productive classroom environment using an effective classroom management plan.
To be able to engage in self-evaluation and professional goal setting.
Duration of Internship: 6 months
Daily Working Hours: 9.00am - 6.00pm (Wed, Fri), 12.30pm - 9.30pm (Mon - Tues, Thurs)
Work Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
Minimum Qualification: No minimum education (i.e. A-level Graduates, Current Polytechnic students are welcome)
Requirements (if any): Given that Chen Su Lan Methodist Children's Home is an MSF Gazetted Place of Safety for Children, All interns are required to undergo MSF screening 1 month in advance prior to internship commencement. The age of the Interns must be above 18 years old as per the MSF regulations.
